How to Avoid Popping Pimples

Ok, so this seems like an odd topic for me to write about, but it appears that my face is showing my stress, my food allergies, and lack of sleep all at once (and I don’t have any food allergies). I follow a regular routine of cleansing, toning and moisturizing both night and day, but I have a feeling my hectic lifestyle has caught up with me.

I was one of those lucky kids that got acne really young, and continue over 20 years later, to suffer from it. I’ve seen dermatologist after dermatologist and have tried many different medications and creams. I did find, however that my skin cleared up with Artistry’s Essential Balancing system, and that is what I am currently using. It’s just a recent attack of the pimple monster that’s caused my smooth skin to rock out.

I do admit that I’ve consumed a lot of sugar in the recent week (much more so than normal) and have a strange feeling that this is my body’s way of detoxing itself from the increased acid in my system. As well, I’ve been under a huge amount of stress and, my handsome son (who is now 18 months) is still not sleeping through the night. So yes, there are many reasons as to why my face has decided to break out.

Having said all this, having suffered with acne for so many years, and having a mother that had an obsession with popping my zits, I have unfortunately also developed the same pimple popping habit. Gross, eh? Well, this breakout time I’ve vowed not to burst any white head that’s glowing in the dark, but instead let nature take its course. What I’ve decided to change are my habits in pimple hygiene.

From past breakouts I found is that if I popped a pimple, it would take much longer to heal and, because of the gross stuff that comes out of them doesn’t all end up on the tissue or my fingernail, I end up with another few pimples around that initial bump. So in effect, by popping the zit, I’m making matters worse, in the longer run.

Are you still reading this? Great! Then maybe you share some of the obsession in squeezing zits, or maybe you just want to see where this article is going. In any case, thank you for your attention.

So, as I tackle this next week, I’m looking at my behaviours related to my skin care and pimples. I have made a verbal commitment to not touch my face, rest my cheek in my hand. I am continuing to use my skin care system both morning and before going to bed. I am changing my pillow cover every other night so that the oils from my hair (and dirt from the day) don’t add to my clogged pores, and I’ve added a pore cleansing mask from Artistry twice a day. In finding this mask, I also was intrigued by a new product they have too…apparently it gets rid of pimples in 24 hours. That’s on my Christmas wish list! Oh yes! If they back it up with a 180-day money back guarantee, I’m all in!

Please send over your pore cleansing energies as you read this and wish my face (and my will to keep my good-habits going) good luck and please comment on any other strategies you’ve used to avoid the recurrence of teenage acne.
